Actually, my doctor told me that leg cramps can occasionally happen early on due to sudden hormonal changes affecting circulation. However, they are much more common in the second and third trimesters because of the baby's weight pressing on nerves and blood vessels, or due to a lack of calcium and magnesium. She advised me to stay hydrated and do light calf stretches before bed.
