In our house, we always use a clean plastic disposable cup to collect the morning urine first, as my mom says it prevents any spills or mistakes. Dip the stick up to the line, wait 3 minutes, and see. It's very simple and much cleaner that way!
I can only share what happened with me, but I got a very faint second line on a standard home kit just one day before my period was due. I used the morning's first urine because everyone told me it is more concentrated then. It was such a surreal moment!
