Can a pelvic ultrasound detect pregnancy at 5 weeks?
Test came positive and im roughly 5 weeks now. Doc called me for a scan but im honestly anxious will they even see anything this early? Anyone had a scan around this time?
Don't worry, my dear. At 5 weeks, a pelvic scan can see the gestational sac to confirm the pregnancy is in the right place, but it's still very early. Just relax, eat well, and let the doctor guide you.
Beta, it is very early, so don't get scared if they don't see much. Eat healthy foods, drink warm milk, and rest. Let the baby grow a little more, and you will see everything clearly in the next scan.
At 5 weeks, a pelvic ultrasound might only show a small sac, and heartbeat is usually not visible yet. My mother said to wait till 7 weeks, but my doctor advised doing it to rule out ectopic pregnancy. Trust whatever your gynac recommends!
My saas told me to wait a bit longer because 5 weeks is too early to see much anyway. But we went for the scan and only saw a tiny gestational sac. It's totally normal if they ask you to repeat it after two weeks.
To be honest, a transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) is much better than a pelvic scan at 5 weeks. Pelvic scans might miss the tiny details this early because the baby is literally the size of a poppy seed. Ask your clinic if they can do a TVS instead.
I know exactly how nerve-wracking those early scans are, I was shaking before mine. At 5 weeks, it's very common to only see the sac and no fetal pole or heartbeat yet. Don't worry if they ask you to come back in 10 days, it's very standard.
At 5 weeks, it usually just confirms the sac. Meanwhile, keep drinking coconut water to stay hydrated. But if you have any spotting or severe one-sided pain, please consult your doctor immediately as that needs quick medical attention.
