I am not a mother yet, but my mother-in-law often says we shouldn't drink very cold water after delivery as it might cause a cold or affect healing. Maybe you can try drinking slightly warm or room temperature water just to be safe?
I had my C-section recently and the gas pain and throat irritation from anesthesia was quite bad, so warm or room temperature water felt much better than cold water. Cool water won't harm your stitches, but warm water definitely helps with bowel movements and recovery early on.
In our family, they strictly tell us to drink only dry ginger (chukku) water after delivery to help with digestion. While I respected that family advice, my doctor told me that cool water is also absolutely fine as long as it's clean and filtered. Trust your body and your doctor.
Arre yaar, don't stress too much about these old restrictions! Drinking cold water doesn't affect your breastmilk or healing at all, that's just a myth. If you feel like drinking cool water to refresh yourself, go ahead, just avoid ice-cold water if you have a sore throat.
Humare yahan toh delivery ke baad sirf gunguna paani ya saunf ka paani dete hain, thanda paani bilkul nahi peene dete. It is believed that warm water helps the tummy go back to shape. Try to drink normal or light warm water for a few weeks, beta.
Haan na, postpartum rules can be so confusing! Actually, our elders tell us to drink only warm water after delivery, ho na? But my doctor said normal water is perfectly fine. You can drink room temperature water to keep yourself safe from cough and cold.
