Can antidepressants cause a false negative pregnancy test?
I take medicine for anxiety and my period is late, but home test came negative. I dont know if my tablets can affect the result. Has anyone asked doctor about this?
The home kit only detects pregnancy hormone, antidepressants are not involved in that. But since u r already on medication, a beta hcg blood test from ur gynac will give u the most accurate answer.
Actually no, my psychiatrist told me clearly that antidepressants dont mess with the pregnancy test. The test only reads hcg hormone, and SSRIs dont touch that. False negative usually happens when u test too early or with diluted urine.
Better dont rely only on the strip yaar. If u suspect pregnancy and u r on regular meds, go get the blood test done. Doctor can also guide if any med needs adjusting.
I dont think the meds change it, but honestly im not fully sure how everything interacts. Best to just ask ur doctor since u r on antidepressants, they can do a blood test which is more reliable.
Medicines like that wont give false negative na. If u tested early thats the real reason. Wait few days, test again with first morning urine, much clearer result.
