Saw some scan pics online where baby looks like its smiling and now im curious. Im just past 3 months. Does the baccha really smile inside this early ya its just our imagination?
I completely understand why you're asking this, we get so excited to see any sign of our baby being happy in there! Proper facial expressions like smiling are actually developed around the 6th month of pregnancy. Don't worry at all, your baby is growing beautifully.
A 3-month-old fetus is very tiny, so visible smiles on ultrasound only happen much later in the second half of pregnancy. Focus on your health for now, eat small balanced meals, and keep an eye on your sugar intake to keep the baby healthy.
From what I read, early muscle reflexes start around 12 weeks, but actual smiling in the womb is usually visible much later, around 24 weeks. I usually read up on these things during my light evening walks, which my gynac allowed after my first trimester.
Oh, at 3 months (around 12 weeks), the baby is so tiny and just starting to develop facial muscles, so they can make tiny reflex movements but a real smile is seen much later on 4D scans. I remember during my third month I was just struggling to keep water down due to horrible nausea, so don't worry about scans yet.
Actually, at 3 months of pregnancy, the baby's face is still forming, so proper smiles are usually visible on 4D scans in the second or third trimester. Just stay happy and keep eating healthy.
