My mom makes karela regularly at home and i had it twice this week. Then someone told me bitter gourd should be avoided when pregnant. Im in 2nd trimester, is it actually harmful na?
Small amounts in regular sabzi are usually fine, but karela in large quantity or as juice is generally advised against in pregnancy. I'd avoid karela juice and just check with ur gynac to be safe.
In our family elders used to say avoid too much karela in early months. A little in ur normal cooking should be okay but don't have it in large quantity. Best mention it to ur doctor if u eat it often.
My MIL also told me to go easy on karela during pregnancy. I just ate it occasionally in small amount and skipped juice. If u r doubtful, one quick word with gynac settles it na.
I had GD so karela came up for me. Doctor said normal sabzi quantity is okay but not concentrated juice. Please don't take karela juice on ur own for sugar, ask ur doctor first about everything food related.
