Can carrying heavy things cause miscarriage in early pregnancy?
I lifted a heavy water bucket yesterday before i realised i shouldnt have, im around 7 weeks. Now im panicking thinking did i harm the baby. How careful do i really need to be with lifting in these early weeks?
Better to avoid heavy lifting to be safe, but most early miscarriages are due to other reasons not lifting a bag. Still, dont strain yourself, ask for help with the heavy stuff. No need to test it.
I'd be cautious here, especially if you have any history or bleeding. My doctor told me to avoid lifting heavy weights in my first trimester just as a precaution. If you've already lifted something and feel pain or spotting, call your gynac.
After IVF I was extra careful and avoided all heavy work in early weeks, more for my own peace of mind. Please dont panic if you lifted something once, just be gentle with yourself going forward. And mention any concern to your doctor.
My MIL strictly told me to hand over all the heavy household work, and honestly it was a relief. Let others do the lifting for these months, na. There's no harm in being a bit extra careful early on.
Doctors usually advise against heavy lifting as a precaution, though everyday light things are fine. Each pregnancy is different, so check with your own gynac about your limits. When in doubt, take it easy.
