I love karela sabzi but my MIL keeps saying avoid it now that im expecting. Currently in my 2nd trimester. Is there really koi problem with it or can i have it sometimes?
Personally, I ate normal cooked karela sabzi a few times during my second trimester and faced no issues. However, I made sure to remove the seeds completely while cooking. That's just what worked for me.
Actually yaar, cooked karela is totally fine to eat, just don't go drinking karela juice or anything extreme. I used to have it once in a while with roti. Just make sure it is washed properly and fully cooked.
My pregnancy tracker app showed that karela is totally fine in normal cooked food quantities, but you should avoid eating its seeds or drinking karela juice. It has good vitamins, but moderation is key!
Beta, karela is very good for purifying blood, but in pregnancy, eat it only in small quantities. Traditional elders advise not to eat too much of bitter things during these months. Just have a small spoonful of cooked sabzi occasionally if you crave it.
During my regular check-up at my hospital, the dietician clearly told me that normal home-cooked vegetables, including karela, are safe in moderation. But if you have gestational diabetes or any other issue, definitely consult your hospital nutritionist first.
Ugh, even the thought of karela made me throw up when I had severe morning sickness! But if you can tolerate the taste, having a small portion of cooked karela sabzi is perfectly fine. Just don't overdo it.
