Can eating too much sugar cause diabetes in pregnancy?
I have such bad sweet cravings these days, im in my 5th month and cant stop with the mithai. Now im worried im eating too much and might bring on gestational diabetes. Is there really a link or am i overthinking?
It's a mix of factors, family history, weight, hormones, not only diet. Still, cutting back on sweets and refined stuff is wise during pregnancy. The screening test will tell you clearly, so do it on time.
I had gestational diabetes and honestly it's more about hormones and how your body handles sugar than just eating sweets. But too much sugar definitely doesnt help. I had to watch my carbs carefully and do the glucose test, please dont skip that test.
My doc said GD is caused by pregnancy hormones affecting insulin, not directly by eating sugar. But excess sugar makes blood levels harder to control. Everyone should do the glucose tolerance test around the 6th month to be safe.
