I slipped and hurt my wrist, doc is saying might need an xray of the hand. Im 14 weeks and now worried about the radiation reaching baby. is the hand far enough that its ok? anyone been through this.
For a hand xray they usually put a lead apron over your tummy to protect the baby, so it is generally considered safe when really needed. But always tell the technician and your doctor that you are pregnant first. Let them decide if it is necessary.
A hand is far from the uterus and with proper shielding the risk is very low. Still, the right call is to ask your doctor whether it is truly needed now or can wait. Dont decide on your own.
I would never do any xray without telling the doctor I am pregnant. For a far away part like hand with shielding it is usually ok if needed. Please just confirm with your gynac before going.
