Can hole in heart detected in scan during pregnancy?
My anomaly scan is coming up next week and im so nervous. There is heart problem history in my husbands family so this is on my mind a lot. Does the scan actually show if baby has a hole in heart or do they find it later?
Some heart defects can be seen on scans but not always 100 percent, some are found only after birth. If you have any family history or concern, ask your doctor for a fetal echo. Please dont rely on internet for this, the doctor is the right person.
Dont let fear take over beta. The scans are quite advanced now and they do look at the heart carefully. If you are anxious, just ask your doctor directly, they will explain and reassure you better than any of us here.
I know this worry feels heavy. They do check the heart in the anatomy scan, and if they want a closer look they refer for a fetal echocardiography. If something is on your mind, please talk to your doctor, they will guide you properly. Sending you calm vibes.
Yes, there is a detailed scan called the anomaly scan around 18-20 weeks where they check the baby heart and structures. My doctor said some heart issues can be picked up there, and if needed they do a special fetal echo. Best to discuss with your gynac.
