Can i avoid thyroid tablet mefication during pregnancy?
My TSH came high and doctor gave thyroid tablet, but I am scared of taking daily medicine while pregnant. I havent stopped it, just feeling confused and worried. Did anyone else start thyroid medicine only after pregnancy?
My endocrinologist was very clear, thyroid tablets are usually needed throughout pregnancy and often the dose even increases. The medicine itself is considered safe and necessary. Skipping it is the risky part. Please dont avoid it, get your levels checked and follow the doctor.
No please dont avoid it. Thyroid medication is important for the baby and uncontrolled thyroid can cause real problems. Whatever you do, do not stop without your doctor saying so. They will monitor your TSH and tell you the right dose.
I would say no, dont skip it. Thyroid is one of those things they take seriously in pregnancy. My friend stopped hers thinking it was fine and her levels went off badly. Take it as prescribed and do your regular TSH tests, only doctor decides any change.
I understand not wanting to take medicines, but this one is genuinely important for you and baby. Please dont stop it yourself. Just have an honest chat with your gynac about your worry, they will explain why it matters and keep monitoring you.
Please dont stop your thyroid tablet on your own, this is one medicine you really need to continue in pregnancy. I had thyroid too and my doctor said it directly affects baby's development, so I never skipped it. They adjust the dose, never just stop it. Talk to your doctor before any change.
