We eat a lot of ayala fish at home and my MIL made it today but i wasnt sure if the bigger ones are ok in pregnancy. Heard something about mercury in large fish. Anyone here eating it safely?
I had crazy fish cravings with my twins, but my doc told me to avoid very large mackerel because of high mercury levels. Better to stick to smaller bangda or ayala, and please fry or cook it completely! You don't want double trouble in your tummy, trust me.
Beti, fresh fish is very good for strength, but large fish can sometimes cause heat or have impurities. If you eat ayala, make sure it is washed properly with turmeric and salt, and fully cooked. Also, don't eat too much of it at one time, keep it limited.
Seafood can be tricky because of mercury and infection risks. Honestly, before eating any large fish like ayala, just ask your gynac once. They know your blood reports and can tell you exactly what's safe.
Relax, eating a piece of well-cooked fish won't turn your baby into a mermaid! Just don't go eating the giant ones daily because of that annoying mercury stuff. Enjoy a small, fully cooked portion to satisfy your cravings.
Please be extremely careful with seafood during this delicate time. Large mackerel can contain high mercury, which isn't safe for the baby's growth. I completely avoided large fish during my pregnancy just to be 100% safe, it's not worth the risk.
Oh god, now I'm craving fish curry at 11 PM! I usually avoid large fish these days just because cleaning them feels like climbing Mt. Everest. But jokes apart, if you eat it, make sure it is super cooked, not raw or semi-cooked.
Actually, I have heard from elders that eating fresh, well-cleaned fish is very good for health when you are planning. But yes, choosing smaller fish is always safer than the very large ones. Hope this helps a little.
