If you mean yam, oal, we cook it well at home and it is fine in moderation. Always cook it thoroughly as raw yam can irritate the throat. My mom made it as a curry and I enjoyed it during pregnancy.

Beta suran or yam is eaten in many homes, just make sure it is cooked properly with a little tamarind or lemon so it doesnt itch the throat. We had it during pregnancy too. Eat in small amounts and it is fine.
