My mom always says no papaya at all in pregnancy but I really love it and im craving it now. Im just 7 weeks. Bit confused if its only raw one or all kinds. Anyone clear about this?
Beta, in our homes raw or half-ripe papaya is always avoided in pregnancy, elders say it can cause heat. Fully ripe papaya in small amount some allow, but to be safe in early months I'd skip it. Better ask your doctor too.
After my earlier loss I avoided papaya completely, just for my own peace of mind, especially the unripe one. I'm not saying ripe is dangerous, but in early weeks I chose caution. Do what feels safe for you and ask your doctor.
Raw/green papaya is the real no-no. Ripe is usually considered okay in moderation but opinions differ. Since it's early pregnancy and you're unsure, just confirm with your gynac, they'll give you a clear yes or no for your case.
The concern is mainly raw or unripe papaya, that's the one to avoid because of papain. Ripe papaya is debated. I personally just avoided it fully in the first trimester to be safe and ate other fruits instead. Plenty of safe options out there.
