We are bengali and fish is basically daily at home, rui mach especially. Now that im pregnant my mother in law is unsure if i should continue it. Is it safe to eat regularly? Pls share ur experience.
Rui machh is a freshwater fish and low in mercury, so it is generally fine in pregnancy. Just make sure it is fresh and cooked properly, no raw or half done. It is a good source of protein actually.
In my house we cooked rui maach properly in light gravy and I ate it through my pregnancy. It gave me strength, my mother said. Just take fresh fish and cook it nicely, dont eat outside fried ones too much.
We eat a lot of fish in our family during pregnancy and the elders always picked the freshwater ones. Rohu is considered safe and nourishing. Just cook it well, and if you have any allergy concern check with your doctor.
My doctor said low mercury fish like rohu are actually good for the baby because of the protein and omega. She just warned me to avoid big sea fish that are high in mercury and never eat it undercooked. So rui mach is fine in moderation.
Rohu is affordable and good protein, which really helped me eat well without spending a lot. I bought it fresh from the local market and cooked at home, cheaper and safer than eating out. Just make sure it is properly cleaned and cooked.
Dont stress yaar, rui mach is one of the safe fish. I had it plenty during pregnancy and loved it. Just keep it fresh and fully cooked and you can totally enjoy your machh bhaat.
