I usually chew a few tulsi leaves every morning for their health benefits. Now I'm 8 weeks pregnant and wondering if it's still safe to continue. Can I have tulsi leaves during early pregnancy, or should I stop?
Honestly, unless you are planning to eat a whole tulsi plant, a few leaves in your chai won't do anything. I drank ginger-tulsi chai throughout my first trimester just to survive the sleepiness and nausea. Just don't overdo it!
I had 2-3 tulsi leaves in my tea during my 8th week and then read online that it's bad, which made me panic completely! My doctor laughed and said a couple of leaves are totally fine, just avoid eating too many of them daily. So don't worry.
Tulsi is fine in very small amounts, like a leaf or two in your daily tea. But avoid concentrated tulsi drops or consuming it in large quantities because it can cause uterine contractions. Just keep it very moderate.
Keep it simple. One or two leaves for cough or cold is fine, but do not take Tulsi supplements or kadha daily. Your body is very sensitive at 8 weeks, so consult your doctor before taking herbal remedies.
I am in my 2nd trimester now and I totally avoided tulsi in my 1st trimester because someone told me it causes heat. Are you guys having it in your tea? Let me know, I'm always so confused about what to eat.
