Can iron supplements cause lower back pain in pregnancy?
I started my iron tablets recently and around the same time my lower back has been aching. Not sure if its the iron or just normal pregnancy back pain. im 5 months along. did anyone else notice this connection?
My doctor said iron tablets usually cause stomach issues like constipation, nausea or dark stools, not really back pain directly. The back pain in pregnancy is mostly from the growing bump and posture. If your back pain is bad, mention it so they can find the actual cause.
I started iron and also had back ache around the same time and got worried they were linked. Did anyone else feel this? My doctor said the back pain was just the pregnancy, which calmed me down a bit.
Honestly the back pain is more likely from the pregnancy itself than the iron pill. Iron mostly upset my stomach. For the back, a warm compress and good posture helped me, and dont sit too long.
I wouldnt assume its the iron, lower back pain can have many causes in pregnancy. If its persistent or severe, or comes with other symptoms, please check with your gynac. They can confirm whether to continue the supplement as is.
