We are about to start our IVF journey and i read somewhere that ectopic can still happen even with ivf, which kind of shook me. I always thought ivf avoids that. Has anyone been through this or heard about it?
I had an ectopic once and it was caught early because I went in for any pain or spotting immediately. With IVF they monitor hcg and do early ultrasounds for exactly this reason. If you feel sharp one sided pain, call your doctor at once.
My fertility doc explained that even though the embryo is placed in the uterus, it can sometimes move into the tube, so ectopic is possible but uncommon. Thats why they track beta hcg trends closely after transfer. The early monitoring is your safety net.
Sadly yes it can still happen even with IVF, it happened to a lady in my support group. It is rare but possible, so the early scans are really important. Please dont scare yourself, just stay close to your fertility doctor.
