Can manjishthadi kwatham be taken during pregnancy?
I usually take some Ayurvedic preparations for my health. Are there general guidelines about which Ayurvedic supplements or herbs are safe to take during pregnancy, or should I avoid them all? I want to be very cautious.
I am too tired to even pronounce that name, haha! But honestly, my gynac told me to stay away from any self-medicating, even if it's natural or Ayurvedic, because herbs can be very potent. Better to stick to plain coconut water and leave the kwathams for postpartum!
I remember panicking when my relative suggested a herbal drink for my skin rash and I almost drank it. Thank god I asked my doctor first, who strictly advised against taking any Ayurvedic kwathams without a prescription. Please check with your gynac before drinking anything like this.
With an IVF pregnancy, every little herb felt like a risk. Manjishthadi kwatham is generally used for blood purification, but some of its active ingredients might not be safe for the developing baby. Please, for your peace of mind and safety, consult your doctor before consuming it.
Keep your heart positive and focus on simple, safe nutrition right now. I would advise avoiding any strong herbal medicines unless your doctor has specifically prescribed them to you. Nature has its own ways, but during these nine months, caution is our best friend.
During pregnancy, we have to be extremely careful with herbal decoctions like kwathams because some herbs can cause uterine contractions. Personally, I avoided all such strong Ayurvedic preparations until after my baby was born. It is always safer to stick to basic, simple foods.
In our family, we use many Ayurvedic herbs, but my mother was very clear that during pregnancy we shouldn't take complex kwathams like Manjishthadi. It is very cooling or sometimes heating, which might not suit the pregnancy. Please consult your Ayurvedic doctor or gynac before taking it.
