Can niger seeds chutney be consumed during pregnancy?
We make this niger seeds chutney often at home, its a regional thing here. Now that im pregnant im not sure if its safe to keep eating. Anyone knows if this is fine?
Honestly, niger seeds (gurellu) are known to be quite heating for the body, so I would be very careful. Before eating this chutney, please check with your gynac if it is safe for your specific trimester. It's always better to prioritize safety during these months.
I felt so confused about what traditional foods were safe, and when my MIL made niger seeds chutney, I felt thoda scared to eat it. My doctor told me a tiny spoon once in a while is fine for iron, but warned against having too much. Listening to my doctor really helped ease my anxiety.
I am planning my pregnancy and love North Karnataka food, so I eat gurellu chutney regularly! But now I am wondering if I should stop it once I conceive. Have any of you eaten it during your pregnancy without any issues?
Haan dear, generally log kehte hain ki yeh garam hota hai, so starting trimesters mein toh bilkul avoid karo, na. Agar mann kare toh bas thoda sa taste badalne ke liye khao, par daily mat khana. Apne doc se ek baar pooch lena sabse best rahega!
When I was admitted to the premium hospital for my routine checks, I asked the clinical dietitian about traditional seed chutneys. She clearly advised against consuming niger seeds in large quantities due to bleeding risks. I highly recommend asking your hospital staff or doctor clearly before adding it to your diet.
Honestly, pregnancy makes you crave the weirdest things, but please skip the heavy niger seed chutney for now. You already have to deal with enough acidity and heat in your body, no need to add fuel to the fire! Stick to normal coconut chutney and save this one for postpartum recovery.
