My mom strictly says no papaya at all but i love it, so confused now. Im in first trimester. Is it the raw one thats the issue or all papaya? anyone knows?
I stayed very active with doctor-approved prenatal yoga and walking, and was also very careful with my diet. My trainer and doctor both said to avoid raw/semi-ripe papaya completely due to the latex content. Safe to skip it for a few months!
Be very careful because papaya (especially raw) can be risky, and even ripe ones have a lot of natural sugar if you are monitoring your gestational diabetes. I completely kept it out of my diet just to be safe and avoid spikes.
Fully ripe papaya is actually fine, but raw or semi-ripe papaya is a big NO because of latex. Since I didn't want to take any risks with my cravings, I just avoided it completely and stuck to mangoes and apples!
I personally avoided papaya altogether during my entire nine months because I didn't want to take even a 1% risk. Many of my friends ate ripe ones and were fine, but I felt safer just staying away from it.
At my hospital, the dietician clearly told me to strictly avoid raw papaya because it can trigger uterine contractions. They said fully ripe is okay in tiny amounts, but advised to avoid it just to be on the safe side. Do ask your doctor.
I am currently in my 5th month and my family has strictly banned papaya of any kind! I miss it so much. Is anyone else's family also super strict about completely avoiding even the fully ripe ones?
According to my pregnancy app, raw or semi-ripe papaya contains latex and papain which can cause contractions, so it's a major red flag. Fully ripe is technically okay, but most Indian doctors suggest avoiding it entirely to be safe.
