There is a polio drive happening in our area and they are asking everyone to take it. Im 4 months pregnant na so im not sure if I should. Anyone got this during pregnancy or did u skip it?
Polio vaccine is definitely not one of the routine vaccines we take during these months. Only tetanus and flu shots are normally recommended. Since it is not a standard shot, please make sure you ask your doctor before taking any such vaccine.
My pregnancy tracker app showed only Tetanus (TT), Tdap, and Influenza vaccines as safe and recommended during these nine months. Polio is a live vaccine in many cases, so it's usually avoided. Definitely cross-check with your gynac before getting any vaccine other than the standard ones.
Usually, polio vaccines are not a part of the standard, budget-friendly vaccination chart given by government or private hospitals during pregnancy, as we only need TT or Tdap. I checked my pregnancy costs and vaccine list thoroughly and my gynac never mentioned it. Better ask your doctor if they actually recommend it for you to avoid paying for unnecessary tests or shots.
I just delivered last month and the only shots I was given during my third trimester were Tdap and the flu vaccine. My doctor clearly said polio and other live vaccines are not given during pregnancy at all. Please check with your hospital before taking anything.
Polio vaccine is usually for the baby after birth, not for us! Having twins meant twice the vaccines for them later, but for me, only TT was prescribed during pregnancy. Unless your doctor specifically told you to take it, you don't need it. Just skip it and save your arms for carrying the baby!
