Can prednisone cause a false negative pregnancy test?
I'm currently on prednisone for an autoimmune condition and I took a pregnancy test, which came out negative. Could the prednisone be interfering with the results and giving a false negative? I'm trying to figure out if I should retest.
Ghar pe my MIL always says heavy medicines can delay our periods, which makes us panic and test early. If you are taking prednisone, it might have just pushed your cycle date thoda. Don't stress, wait a few more days and test again calmly.
Prednisone won't directly cause a false negative test, but since it's a steroid, it can thoda alter your menstrual cycle and ovulation date. Because of this, you might be testing too early! Give it 3-4 days and try testing again with morning's first urine.
Steroids like prednisone can also affect your blood sugar levels, so you have to be extra careful with your diet. It shouldn't cause a false negative directly, but if your period is late, please consult your doctor. They can do a blood test which is always 100% accurate.
Honestly, dealing with medications and pregnancy suspense is so stressful, especially if you already have morning sickness or nausea starting up. Prednisone won't hide the hCG hormone, but early testing definitely can. Drink plenty of water and retest after a couple of days.
During my C-section recovery, my doctors were very careful with steroid meds like prednisone. It doesn't change the test results directly, but it can impact your cycle length. Try to rest your body well right now and check with your doc if you miss your period by a week.
I just delivered and actually took prednisone for an allergy during my trying phase. It doesn't directly mess with the pregnancy hormone (hCG) in your urine, but it can delay your period cycle. Retest in a few days or ask your doc for a blood test to be sure.
