My doctor took a lot of blood for tests this week and it got me thinking about all the things blood tests can show. Bit of a random thought but does the pregnancy blood work pick up anything serious like that too? just curious honestly.
My doctor explained the pregnancy blood test only checks hCG, it is not a cancer screening. Very rarely some tests pick up unusual things by accident, but that is not its purpose. If you have a worry about cancer, that needs a totally separate proper check with the doctor.
From what I have seen around the clinic, the standard pregnancy blood test is just hCG, nothing to do with cancer screening. They are completely separate investigations. If you are anxious, book a proper checkup and ask the doctor straight.
It sounds like something is worrying you beyond just pregnancy. The pregnancy test alone wont answer that, so dont depend on it. Go sit with your doctor and tell them everything, that is the safe way.
Honestly these two are different things. The pregnancy blood test is for confirming pregnancy and hormone levels, not for detecting cancer. If something is on your mind, please raise it directly with your doctor so they order the right tests.
I would not rely on a pregnancy test for anything like that. If you have symptoms worrying you, see a doctor and ask specifically, dont let it sit. Peace of mind from a proper consultation is worth it.
