Can progesterone tablets be given to check pregnancy?
My period is delayed by 10 days and the doctor mentioned progesterone tablets to me. I got a bit confused, are these given to bring period or to check something about pregnancy? didnt fully understand in the rush. can anyone clear this?
Because of irregular periods my doctor gave me progesterone to trigger my period, not to test pregnancy. They are two different things. If you might be pregnant, do a test first before any tablet.
No, those tablets are not a pregnancy test. Pregnancy is confirmed by hCG in urine or blood. Progesterone has other uses and should only be taken if a doctor prescribes it for you.
Please dont take progesterone on your own to test anything, thats not how it works and self dosing can be risky. A simple test kit or blood test confirms pregnancy. Always let the gynac decide on hormone tablets.
Progesterone tablets dont check pregnancy, they are usually given to support a pregnancy or to bring on a delayed period in some cases. To confirm pregnancy its a urine test or blood beta hCG. My doctor explained this clearly when she prescribed mine.
