My report says i carry sickle cell trait and now that we are planning, im a bit worried. Nobody in family really talks about it. Did anyone here have it during pregnancy, how was it managed?
This is something you really should discuss with your gynac early. They usually check the partner too and monitor you a bit more closely. Please dont rely on forum answers for something like this.
It can have implications depending on the partner's status, so genetic counselling is usually advised. Your gynac is the right person to explain your specific case clearly.
My cousin has the trait and her doctor told her it can need extra monitoring and they screened her husband as well. She had a healthy baby but with proper follow up. Definitely flag it to your doctor right away.
Dear, having the trait isnt automatically a big problem, but it does mean you and your partner should get tested and let the doctor plan. They will take good care of you, just go inform them soon.
I dont have it so I cant speak from experience, but anything in the blood like this is best handled by a specialist. Dont let it scare you, just get the right guidance early.
