I've heard that after pregnancy, one shouldn't sleep on their stomach. Is it true that you can't sleep on your stomach after delivery, and if so, for how long?
Oh I missed stomach sleeping so much during those nine months! 😂 Once my stitches healed up nicely, I went straight back to my favorite position. Just give it a few weeks and let your tummy heal first!
Beta, don't rush into sleeping on your stomach just yet. Your body has gone through so much, and the internal organs need time to settle. You can gently massage your back with warm sesame oil to relieve the stiffness, but sleep on your side for now.
Honestly, my tracker app suggested waiting at least a few weeks post-delivery, especially if you had a C-section. It is best to let your uterus shrink back first. Use a pregnancy pillow for support if you are trying to find a comfortable side angle.
My mother-in-law told me to sleep only on my side to help the stomach muscles heal, but I still asked my doctor at the 6-week checkup. She said once the postpartum bleeding stops and you feel no pain, it is completely fine. Just be gentle with your body.
After such a long journey to hold my baby, I was so cautious about every little recovery step. If you had a normal delivery, you might be able to do it sooner than after a C-section. Just be very gentle with yourself and give your body the time it deserves to heal.
I totally understand how difficult it is to sleep comfortably right now, dear. After delivery, my body felt so fragile and I missed sleeping on my stomach so much. Take it slow, listen to your body, and you will get your favorite sleep position back soon.
I am still pregnant but can't wait to sleep on my belly again! Right now, I only do very light pregnancy yoga and daily walking with my doctor's permission to keep my back strong. Hopefully, post-delivery we can get back to normal sleep patterns soon.
