Can taking antibiotics during pregnancy cause autism?
I had a bad throat infection and my doctor put me on antibiotics for a few days. Now i saw something online linking it to autism and honestly im scared and overthinking. Has anyone heard about this, im going to ask my gynac too but couldnt stop worrying.
Honestly there is a lot of fear around this online but the safe antibiotics doctors prescribe are well studied. Dont skip a medicine your doctor gave because of internet panic. Always ask your own gynac if unsure.
I asked my gynac this exact thing because I needed antibiotics for a UTI. She said there is no proven link that pregnancy safe antibiotics cause autism, and that untreated infection is more risky. Doctors only give the ones tested safe for pregnancy.
I also overthought this so much when I had to take antibiotics. But my doctor reassured me and only the safe category ones are given in pregnancy. Try not to spiral like I did, ask the doctor directly.
