Can thyroid problems cause false positive pregnancy test?
I have hypothyroid and im on medication. got a faint positive but my period showed up two days later and now im totally confused. could my thyroid be messing with the test result? anyone with thyroid faced this?
My endo explained pregnancy tests detect hCG, and thyroid hormones are separate, so it shouldnt cause a false positive normally. False positives are rare and usually from other causes. If u r unsure, get a blood beta hcg, its the clearest answer.
I had thyroid issues through my pregnancy and from what my doctor told me, thyroid itself doesnt usually make the pregnancy test falsely positive. But it can mess with your periods, which confuses things. Best is a blood test and to keep your thyroid monitored regularly.
I wont claim to know for sure, but with my hormonal stuff irregular cycles confused me more than the test ever did. Thyroid can throw your periods off and make u suspect pregnancy. I would just do a blood test and let the doctor sort it.
From what I understand thyroid problems dont typically cause a false positive, the test reads hCG specifically. But thyroid does affect cycles a lot. Honestly just get a blood test and discuss with your doctor, no point guessing.
