I used to do surya namaskar every morning before getting pregnant and i really miss it. Now im 10 weeks and confused if its okay to continue or i should stop completely. Anyone kept doing it during pregnancy?
Generally the classic version isnt advised because of the abdominal compression and balance risk. A trained prenatal instructor modifies it safely. Just clear it with ur gynac, especially first trimester.
I love surya namaskar but I stopped the full version once pregnant. There are pregnancy-modified poses without the deep bends and lying on belly. Please do it only under a prenatal yoga trainer and after ur doc says ok.
My amma also said yoga is good for delivery, and it is, but pregnancy version only. The traditional surya namaskar has too much bending. Best to join a proper garbha sanskar or prenatal class and confirm with ur doctor first.
I kept worrying about the same thing honestly. I asked my doctor and she said no to the full one but cat-cow stretch and slow breathing were fine for me. Better to ask urs too instead of guessing na.
Full surya namaskar with the forward folds and stomach pressure, no. Gentle stretching and breathing, yes. Both my pregnancies I just did slow prenatal yoga, dont push into normal asanas.
