We are non veg family and sunday mutton is a tradition at home. But im 6 weeks now and my MIL says avoid heavy meat early on. is it actually a problem in first trimester?
Yes u can, just make sure its cooked fully and properly, no half cooked meat. I had mutton in early pregnancy, good for iron and protein. Keep portions reasonable since its heavy to digest, thats the only thing.
Honestly in my early weeks the smell of mutton made my nausea worse, so I avoided it for a while. If u can tolerate it and its well cooked, go ahead. Listen to ur tummy in first trimester, it tells u a lot.
We had it occasionally, its a good iron source which saves on relying only on supplements. Just buy fresh and cook it thoroughly. I kept it once a week so it doesnt get too heavy on the stomach.
My gynac said meat is fine, even helpful for iron and protein, but it must be thoroughly cooked to avoid infection. She also said dont have it too oily or in huge quantity. So well cooked mutton in moderation is ok.
We eat mutton at home and I continued in early months, no issue. My mother in law just said cook it well done and dont eat too oily curry. As long as its fully cooked and hygienic, its fine.
