my family completely banned papaya the moment they heard im pregnant, saying its not good in early months. im just one month in. is it really that risky or just a myth? what do u all believe?
Beta, our elders always said to avoid raw or unripe papaya in pregnancy, and there's good reason, it's believed to cause problems. Fully ripe papaya in small amount is considered safer by many, but in early months I'd just skip it to be safe. Do ask your doctor too.
I got so scared because I had a slice of papaya before knowing I was pregnant. My gynac said one small bit is unlikely to harm but to avoid it going forward, especially raw. Did anyone else worry over something they ate early on?
Raw/green papaya is a clear no, especially early on. Ripe papaya in small quantity is usually said to be okay, but honestly in the first month I avoided it completely just to be cautious. Plenty of other safe fruits to enjoy instead.
My family was strict about no papaya in early pregnancy, especially the raw one. I just chose other fruits like apple and pomegranate instead and felt at ease. If you're unsure, your doctor will tell you clearly.
