I'm finding it difficult to get comfortable while sleeping now. Is it okay to lie straight on my back during pregnancy, especially in the later months? I'm worried if it can affect the baby's position or blood flow.
Personally, my back started hurting a lot if I lay straight after the 5th month. I found sleeping on my left side with a pillow between my knees much more comfortable.
My doctor explained that after 20 weeks, lying straight can compress a major blood vessel (the vena cava). This reduces blood flow to the baby, so left-side sleeping is the safest option.
After going through so much to get pregnant, we worry about every little posture. Lying straight is fine early on, but side sleeping is highly recommended later to ensure the baby gets proper blood flow.
