I was on metformin for pcos before and now im pregnant, 6 weeks. Not sure whether to continue or stop it. Will definitely confirm with my doc but wanted to hear if others were told to keep taking it.
I was on metformin for PCOS and my doctor continued it into early pregnancy in my case. But this is totally a doctor's call, dont start or stop it yourself. Everyone's situation differs so please go by your own gynac's advice.
My doc said metformin is considered relatively safe and is commonly used in pregnancy for PCOS or gestational diabetes. The dose and decision are individual though. The main rule she stressed, never self medicate, let the doctor decide and adjust.
With my gestational diabetes the doctor did use metformin to manage sugar when diet alone wasnt enough. It is used in pregnancy under supervision. So yes it can be used, but only as your doctor prescribes and monitors.
