My baby is 5 months and im still feeding her, periods havent come back yet. We arent really trying but also not being too careful. Is it actually possible to get pregnant in this phase?
I just had my baby and my doc warned me about exactly this, said dont assume breastfeeding protects you. She told me ovulation can sneak back quietly. So we're being careful and she suggested a nursing-safe option for us.
Many people think breastfeeding stops pregnancy fully but it doesnt. It can delay periods for a while, but ovulation can come back before your first period even shows. So yes conceiving is possible. I'd ask your doctor about safe contraception while nursing.
Yes you absolutely can. Breastfeeding lowers chances but it's not a reliable birth control, lots of close-age siblings happen this way. If you're not planning another baby soon, use proper protection and talk to your gynac about options.
My gynac explained there is a method (LAM) that works only in the first 6 months IF you're exclusively breastfeeding day and night and periods havent returned. Outside those strict conditions, pregnancy is very possible. She gave me a breastfeeding-safe contraceptive instead of relying on it.
