There is autism in my husbands family so its been on my mind a lot. I was wondering if there is any way to know or test for it before the baby is born, or is that not a thing? Just trying to understand.
No such test exists during pregnancy. The usual scans check the baby's growth and structure, not things like autism. Just keep ur regular checkups and dont worry about something u cant test for right now.
I worried about this too and kept googling at night, big mistake honestly. My doc calmly told me it cant be tested before birth so theres no point stressing now. Try not to fall into that rabbit hole like I did.
As far as I know, no prenatal test can detect autism. It's something assessed in early childhood through development milestones. If u have specific worries, a fetal medicine specialist can explain what scans actually cover.
From what my doc told me, there is no test during pregnancy that can confirm autism. The scans and screening check for other conditions but not this. Autism is usually noticed only after the child grows a bit.
