Just got my reports confirming and now thinking about delivery costs. We have a family health policy through my husbands office. Not sure if maternity is included or there is some waiting period. Anyone dealt with this?
It varies by policy a lot. Look for maternity benefit clause, the waiting period and the sub limit. Also check if pre and post natal tests are included or only delivery. Best to call the insurer directly so there are no surprises at billing time.
Most regular mediclaim policies have a waiting period for maternity, usually 2 to 4 years, so it depends on how old your policy is. Read your policy maternity benefit section or call the insurer to know your exact cover and limit. We planned around our cover, saved a lot.
Not all do automatically, you usually need a maternity add on or a policy that includes it after the waiting period. Dont assume, ring up your insurance and ask exactly whats covered and the room rent limit. Sort this early in the pregnancy.
Check if your office group insurance covers maternity, many corporate policies do without the long waiting period. Mine covered delivery and even some newborn expenses. Personal policies usually make you wait a few years. Call HR or insurer to confirm the cap amount.
