Does travel insurance cover pregnancy complications?
We have a trip planned and im 4 months along, so booking travel insurance. Just want to be sure it covers if something pregnancy related happens. Did anyone check this before travelling?
Most standard travel insurance policies actually do not cover routine pregnancy or complications unless you buy a specific maternity add-on. Looking back at my travel days, it is always safer to read the fine print very carefully before booking.
I don't know the exact legal or medical details, but when I traveled to Europe in my 5th month, my regular insurance didn't cover pregnancy-related emergency visits, so I had to buy a specialized high-premium policy.
Haha, with twins, my doctor didn't even let me travel past the front gate, let alone fly! But yes, standard policies are very tricky with pregnancy, so expect to pay a higher premium if you want actual complication coverage.
Travel is already so exhausting when you are dealing with nausea, and insurance stress makes it worse. From my experience, very few domestic plans cover this, so please call the customer care directly and get a written confirmation before buying.
When I had to travel during my second trimester, I checked with my premium credit card's insurance provider. My hospital coordinator also advised getting a clear medical fit-to-fly certificate from my doctor first, as most insurers demand it.
