In my IVF journey I learnt about this, fraternal twins come from two different eggs each fertilised on its own. With treatments sometimes more than one embryo takes, which can give fraternal twins. They're like two individual little ones from the start.
Speaking as a twin mom haha, fraternal means two separate eggs got fertilised by two separate sperm. So they're basically siblings sharing a womb at the same time, can be a boy and girl too. Mine kept me on my toes from day one!
My doctor explained it nicely, in fraternal twins the ovaries release two eggs in one cycle and both get fertilised. Thats why they look different, like normal brothers or sisters. Different from identical where one egg splits.
