My baby is 3 months and im fully breastfeeding. Saas keeps saying you wont get pregnant while feeding but i dont fully trust that. How does this actually work? someone explain pls.
It's called LAM (Lactational Amenorrhea Method) on most tracker apps. It only works if you're feeding every 4 hours, baby is under 6 months, and you haven't got your period yet. But even then, the failure rate is there, so always use protection!
My MIL also told me that feeding the baby means you won't get pregnant easily, but my doctor told me it's not a guarantee at all! Many women in our family got pregnant within months of delivery, so please be careful and use protection.
I felt so confused about this too after my delivery. The body is so amazing, breastfeeding naturally delays ovulation because of hormones. But honestly, I didn't want to take any risks so soon, so we consulted our doctor for safe family planning.
Exclusive breastfeeding can delay your periods, which thoda decreases the chances of getting pregnant. But honestly, don't rely only on this because you can ovulate before your first period. Use a proper backup contraceptive to be safe.
Since breastfeeding releases hormones that stop your body from releasing eggs, it does lower the chances of conceiving. But our bodies are unique, and you can still get pregnant unexpectedly. Please talk to your healthcare team to find a safe option for your body.
