My gynac mentioned testing for strep b later on and now im curious where it even comes from. Never heard of it before this pregnancy. Did anyone here test positive and how did it happen?
Strep B is actually quite common, and many women carry it without even knowing, it's just normal bacteria in our bodies. My doctor at the premium hospital explained it clearly. It's not something you 'get' from outside; it's often already there. They usually test for it in the late third trimester. If positive, they give antibiotics during labor to protect the baby. Just ask your gynac or the hospital staff, they will explain the protocol.
I remember my doctor explaining about Strep B, it sounded quite common. I was tested for it around 36 weeks. My report came back negative so I didn't have to worry about it. It's best to ask your gynac about it, they can give you all the details and what it means for you personally. I can only share my own experience, not medical advice.
I just delivered recently, and they tested me for Strep B around 36 weeks with a swab test. My report was positive, so during my labor, I was given IV antibiotics. It's really common and they have a clear protocol for it. Don't worry, your gynac will test you too, it's a routine part of pregnancy care now.
Oh, I've seen this mentioned and it makes me a bit anxious! Is it something you can prevent? My doctor hasn't talked about it yet, I'm only in my second trimester. So it's just a bacteria that's already in our body for some people, and not something you 'catch'? Did anyone else feel worried about this?
This Strep B thing is just a type of bacteria, beta. My doctor explained that many women have it naturally in their body, not like you catch it from somewhere. When I was at ghar pe, the nurse did a swab test towards the end of my pregnancy. If it's there, they just give medicine during delivery to keep the baby safe. Don't worry too much, your gynac will handle it.
Group B Strep (GBS) is a type of bacteria that a lot of healthy women carry naturally in their vagina or rectum, without any symptoms. It's not an STD and you don't 'catch' it like a cold. It's just a normal part of the body's flora for some. They test you late in pregnancy to see if you have it, and if yes, you get antibiotics during delivery. Simple.
It's completely normal to feel a bit confused or anxious about things like Group B Strep, I know I did! It's actually a common type of bacteria that can live in the body without causing any harm. You don't 'get' it like an infection, it's just something some people naturally carry. Your doctor will screen for it later in pregnancy and guide you on what to do if you're positive.
