Doc asked me to start folic acid even before we conceive and i didnt fully understand why so early. Just want to know how it actually helps. We are trying since 3 months.
During my journey folic acid was the first thing they put me on, well before pregnancy. They told me it supports early development and reduces certain risks once you conceive. It's not a fertility booster as such, but it's an important preparation step, so do start it under doctor advice.
My doctor explained folic acid doesnt directly make you conceive, but it prepares your body and protects the baby from neural tube defects in the very early weeks, before you even know you are pregnant. Thats why they ask to start it 2-3 months before trying. So it's more about a healthy start than helping you get pregnant.
I started folic acid when we began trying, my gynac said it builds the right base in the body. It doesnt boost conceiving exactly but keeps things ready and healthy for when it happens. I felt good knowing I was preparing properly.
Folic acid is less about getting pregnant and more about keeping the baby healthy in those first crucial weeks. I took it before both my pregnancies on doctor advice. Start it early when planning, dont wait till after the positive test.
