My gynac gave me a date but I dont understand how she got it. Is it from last period ya from something else? Just curious how this whole calculation works.
It is calculated by adding 280 days to the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP). Most apps do this instantly. But remember, the ultrasound dating scan in the first trimester is actually more accurate.
Actually, my doctor explained that they use Naegele's rule—subtract three months and add seven days to your LMP. But if your cycles are irregular, the doctor will modify the date based on the crown-rump length from your first dating scan.
They use this fancy math starting from your last period's first day, which makes no sense because you weren't even pregnant then! Honestly, the due date is just a suggestion anyway, my baby decided to arrive 10 days early at 2 AM.
The hospital calculated mine using the last period date. But my MIL was also doing her own calculations based on the lunar calendar and "nakshatras"! Funnily enough, both dates were quite close.
For me, calculating the due date was a countdown of when this terrible nausea would end. The gynac calculates it from your LMP, but don't obsess over that exact day as only 5% of babies actually arrive on their due date.
I just remember my due date because it falls right in the middle of mango season! They calculate it using your last period date, but I'm just counting the days to when I can eat street food without guilt again.
Haha, with twins, that calculated due date is basically a myth! The standard calculation is from your last period's start, but expect the doctor to prepare you for an earlier date if you've got more than one occupant in there.
