How long can an ectopic pregnancy last before it ruptures?
This is making me really anxious, a friend just went through an ectopic and now i cant stop thinking about it. How much time does it usually take before things get dangerous? i have my scan booked soon.
Please dont try to estimate a timeline at home, this is genuinely an emergency situation. With mine it was caught around 7-8 weeks but ruptures can happen at different times for different people, there's no safe waiting period. If ectopic is even suspected, you need the doctor immediately, not later.
There's no reliable answer to this because every case differs, that's exactly why it's treated as urgent the moment it's found. Don't think of it as something with a timer you can ride out. If you're worried you might have one, an early scan and doctor visit is the only safe move.
My doctor explained it varies a lot, often it becomes critical between 6 and 10 weeks but it isnt fixed, some rupture earlier. The point she stressed was that it must be treated as soon as it's diagnosed, you never wait to see how long it lasts. Sharp one sided pain, shoulder tip pain or dizziness means go to ER.
I know this is scary to read about, but there's no set number of weeks, it's unpredictable. What matters is that if you or someone has a suspected ectopic, it needs urgent medical care right away. Please dont sit and count weeks, get to a hospital and let them handle it.
