My doc started me on folic acid from the beginning itself. Now im wondering till when i need to continue it, full nine months or only first few months? anyone know?
Usually, gynacs prescribe it for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy because that's when the neural tube forms. After that, they transition you to iron and calcium. Definitely consult your doctor before stopping it.
Folic acid is super important in the early weeks. I took it till my 3rd month was complete, and then my doctor switched me to multivitamin tablets. Make sure to keep taking it with water at the same time every day.
My doctor explained that folic acid is crucial during the first trimester (up to 12-14 weeks) to prevent birth defects. Some women are advised to continue it longer based on their blood reports. Please follow your gynac's prescription strictly.
I took it from 3 months before planning till the end of my first trimester, as my doctor told me. It's so important for the baby's brain. Just take it daily without missing, it's a very tiny tablet anyway.
Take your daily folic acid as long as your doctor recommends, usually for the first three months. Keep praying, stay positive, and trust that God is protecting your little one. Eat well and take care of your health.
