I had this exact doubt. From what I read it depends on ur ovulation timing more than the day of sex. Tracking ur cycle helps. A gynac can guide u if ur actively planning.
My doctor explained fertilization can happen within a day or so but the egg implanting takes around 6 to 10 days after. So a test only shows positive usually after a missed period. Dont test too early or u'll just stress.
It's not a fixed number of days. Conception happens around ur fertile window, then it takes about a week or more to implant. Wait till ur period is missed and then test, thats the reliable way.
We were trying too and I learnt it's not instant. Sperm can live a few days and conception happens around ovulation. Then u have to wait till period is due to test. The waiting is the hardest part honestly.
