How many days later should you take a pregnancy test?

My period is 3 days late and I'm getting too impatient. Dont want to test too early and get false result. After how many days it actually shows correct? pls share.

Actually I tested just 1 day after my missed period and got a very faint line. My doc told me to test again after 48 hours, and it was a strong positive! So waiting a couple of days really makes a difference.
