A home test is usually reliable from the day of your missed period, so roughly two weeks after conception. Testing too early gives false negatives. For full confirmation a blood test or early scan at the clinic seals it.
I tested 5 days before period out of excitement, faint nothing, total stress. Retested 2 days after the miss and it was clear. So give it till at least the missed period date, the wait is annoying but worth the accuracy.
